Early life and Educational Background

Michael Williams was born in Brooklyn, New York City. He is the son of a Bahamian mother from Nassau and Booker T. Williams, an American, from Greeleyville, South Carolina, where his African-American family originated.

Williams was brought up in the Vanderveer Projects in East Flatbush, Brooklyn and he attended George Westinghouse Career and Technical Education High School. After he got into trouble when he was still a youth, Williams registered at the National Black Theatre in New York City.

Career

Michael Williams worked for Pfizer pharmaceuticals temperature. Still and all, he was inspired by Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814, he dropped out of school and resigned from his job, against his family’s wishes, to pursue a career as a dancer which he was passionate about.

During a year in which he was consistently homeless, Williams visited record labels and dance studios looking for jobs. He got a job as a background dancer with singer Kym Sims, which gave him more work appearing as a dancer in music videos and on tours with artists such as George Michael and Madonna, including some modeling work. He also designed and recorded Crystal Waters’ 1994 single “100% Pure Love”.

On his 25th birthday, Williams was slashed with a razor blade which led to a big scar on his face as a result of a fight that took place in a bar on Jamaica Avenue, New York City.

The scar became his symbol for recognition, which led to the offers he received to perform as a thug in music videos, including modeling opportunities with notable photographers like David LaChapelle.

His first role as an actor was done together with Tupac Shakur as High Top, the brother, and henchman to Shakur’s drug kingpin Tank, in the 1996 film Bullet. Shakur formally agreed on Williams for the role after he found a polaroid photograph of him in a production studio.
