Initial three-year setup costs are budgeted at $1.4 million.
In order to launch a brand-new risk management and insurance degree programme at Southern University, the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) has collaborated with the Alliant Insurance Foundation, the Spencer Educational Foundation, and the university itself.
The Alliant Insurance Foundation, in conjunction with the LDI Office of Consumer Advocacy and Diversity and the Spencer Educational Foundation, has committed to making an initial investment of $1.4 million over the course of three years to support the establishment of an accredited School of Insurance degree programme within the Southern University System. This investment will take place over the course of the next three years.
“The addition of an accredited insurance degree programme at Southern University will expand opportunities for minorities in Louisiana,” said Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon. “Minorities are underrepresented in our state’s insurance industry,” Donelon added. “Southern University’s addition of this programme will help change that.”
Ron Henderson, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of Consumer Advocacy and Diversity, was likewise effusive in his appreciation for the brand new effort.
“I’m happy to have played a part in this collaborative effort,” Henderson said. “Creating more diversity and equality in the insurance industry is part of the mission of the Office of Consumer Advocacy and Diversity, and I’m happy to have contributed to that mission.”
