$30,000 in scholarships awarded to five students
Insurance education program Invest has announced that it has awarded $30,000 in scholarships to five students who are pursuing degrees related to the insurance industry.
Invest is a nonprofit organization that focuses on educating the next generation of insurance professionals, according to the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (the Big “I”).
Whitnee Dillard, executive director of Invest and the Big “I,” said: “Invest is proud to be an ongoing catalyst in teaching young people about insurance and careers within our great industry.” “Congratulations to the students who were awarded scholarships this year, and thank you to our teachers, volunteers, donors, and the Invest board of directors for your continued support in making this opportunity possible.”
High schools can take advantage of the Invest program’s business curriculum, which focuses on insurance and gives students an understanding of how insurance firms and agencies operate. College students’ abilities in risk management and financial analysis are improved through Invest.
“We congratulate these Invest scholarship winners on their great achievement,” said Charles Symington, Big “I” executive vice president. “The independent agency channel consistently lists finding new staff as a pain point, and Invest continues to spread the word about the insurance industry’s great opportunities for the next generation of talent.”
Students who applied for the grant had to write essays outlining how Invest affected their professional goals. The essays were judged by Invest board members who assessed them on their quality and looked for indications of leadership and a desire to pursue a career in the insurance business. The applicant’s grade point average, a letter of recommendation, and interviews the students performed with local business leaders were all taken into consideration. Over the course of their college studies, the 2023 scholarship winners will be mentored by Invest board members twice a year. The Big “I” stated that corporate and direct donations are what enable scholarships.
The recipients of the 2023 scholarships are:
- Samantha Snider, Wilson Talent Center, Michigan
- Dominic Casali, Wilson Talent Center, Michigan
- Dillon Moquin, Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Florida
- Li Zhiting, Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Florida
- Blake Bartos, William Boone High School, Florida
