He has more than 300 surgical procedures under his belt from his time as a neurosurgeon.

Simon Zhang (in the photo) has been named chief data and analytics officer, a newly created role, by Mercury Insurance.

Zhang is now responsible for improving Mercury’s data science strategy across all areas of data, including infrastructure, data security, compliance, and predictive analytics. He intends to make better use of the company’s six decades’ worth of data by enhancing business procedures and gaining access to information for all employees.

Zhang was the principal data scientist and co-founder of GrowingIO before he became engaged with Mercury. Among his many accomplishments is his tenure as senior director of business analytics at LinkedIn, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership.

Zhang reportedly has over 300 surgical procedures under his belt as a neurosurgeon, according to the social media platform. Appointing him is a step in Mercury’s plan to use data analytics to help the company grow, improve its products, and provide better service to its policyholders.
We are reimagining data usage and unlocking the power of our deep data resources, and this newly established role is the next investment in that effort. “Mercury will become an innovative market leader” due to the combination of proprietary data with new data technologies, according to Victor Joseph, COO and president of Mercury Insurance.
