W.R. Berkley Appoints New President to Lead Technology Underwriting Division

His experience in the P&C industry spans nearly two decades.

Berkley Technology Underwriters is a division of W. R. Berkley, and the company recently announced the appointment of Christopher H. Balch as president.

Balch succeeds Matthew A. Mueller, who moves to the post of chairman of the company, effective immediately, as stated in a press release. Berkley Technology Underwriters specializes in offering property, casualty, and professional insurance coverage. Customers in the technology sector and technology companies worldwide are the company’s primary target market.

Balch joins Berkley Technology Underwriters after nearly two decades in the property and casualty insurance industry. He has worked in the commercial insurance sector for the majority of his career, while he has also spent considerable time in insurance distribution and had several technical and management positions at a big national insurance business.

In contrast, Mueller has been with Berkley Technology Underwriters ever since it was founded in 2011, when he was first appointed president. Mueller will remain an integral part of the W. R. Berkley Corporation team even while he serves as chairman and presides over the transition phase.

“Matt has made invaluable contributions to our team, and we cannot thank him enough. We are fortunate to have him stay on as chairman of Berkley Technology Underwriters, where he helped found the company and guide its growth. Chris is an experienced executive, and we’re thrilled to have him at the helm of the outstanding Berkley Technology Underwriters team moving forward,” said W. Robert Berkley, Jr., president and chief executive officer of W.R. Berkley Corporation.

W. R. Berkley Corporation, an insurance company, has also recently announced the hiring of Lee Iannarone to serve as senior vice president and general counsel.
